The Ballet Class Strand Dance School follows The Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, providing open classes and technical coaching for children and adults in west London
About The Ballet Class
Based in Kew, Richmond (near to The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew), The Ballet Class Strand Dance School provides ballet and spanish dance classes and training for children and students from age 2 and a half years up to senior levels.
Classes are taken by teachers who have danced professionally, have in depth knowledge of performance as well as technical skills, are members of relevant professional dance teaching organisations and are fully CRB checked. Miss Cheryl trained at the Royal Ballet School and gained her teacher’s qualification with distinction before dancing professionally and then teaching. Miss Fenella has an MA in Spanish Dance, has performed at some very prestigious venues as well as having extensive teaching experience.
Our key aim is for children and students to enjoy dance, have fun and gain in strength, confidence and poise.
Benefits of dance and movement are well published. As well as mobility and fitness, ballet training also offers a special sense of achievement. Our Spanish dance classes also offer very special fun and study of a beautiful art, enriching children and students with style in movement and understanding of rhythms.
Beginners are always welcome to the school and enrolment can be completed at any time of the year.
Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus
Royal Academy of Dance syllabus classes are also followed. Children may enter the Royal Academy of Dance exams. These can give a student the sense of working towards a goal as well as achievement. However, where any child or parent feels uncomfortable about entering an exam and chooses not to, the student will still be able to progress on to the next level along with their class friends.
For those children who do wish to enter exams, additional classes will probably be required prior to the exam date, to ensure that the children feel confident and are able to reach their best standards.
Open Ballet Classes
Open classes are non-syllabus classes, designed to suit age and ability and offer opportunity to study specific technical aspects, provide a great deal fun with dance and offer scope to explore a wide variety of dance steps and sequences. They can help a student dancer develop in strength and quick thinking in movement. Where possible these will be included in the courses offered to students who always find some ‘open’ or non- syllabus work interesting and a huge amount of fun.
Spanish Dance Classes
Our Spanish Dance classes are also for children from very young upwards to senior level and follow the Spanish Dance Society syllabus which also offers exam work. The classes include Spanish classical dance and flamenco movements and dances, and students learn to play castanets, perform heal beats as well as the very beautiful and elegant movements with fans. Girls have the opportunity to wear the wonderful swirling flamenco skirts boys how to wear and dance with ‘the waistcoat’.
Our students thoroughly enjoy these classes and from time to time may have the opportunity to take part in public performances.
